145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show Presented by Purina Pro Plan® hosted its annual Press Preview. The event happened at the historic Lyndhurst Castle in Tarrytown, NY. – the first time ever that the show has moved from Madison Square Garden. The estate was designed in 1838 by renowned architect Alexander Jackson Davis with noteworthy occupants including railroad tycoon Jay Gould.
- Westminster Kennel Club President Charlton Reynders, IIIwelcomed guests and spoke about the historic dog show, its heritage as the second oldest, continuously held sporting event in America, and the return of the Gould Cup trophy to Westminster.
- Westminster Kennel Club’s resident canine expert, Gail Miller Bisher, talked to attendees about “What It Takes to Be a Winner at Westminster” and revealed the Westminster’s newest breeds, the Barbet, Biewer Terrier, Belgian Laekenois and Dogo Argentino.
- Westminster’s Director of Companion Events Paul Campanellabrought the sport of agility to life during the preview.
- 19th Century breedsincluding the Pointer, Pug and St. Bernard were showcased, reminiscent to when Jay Gould’s youngest son, Frank Jay Gould, exhibited rough- and smooth-coated St. Bernards at Westminster in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
