Rockefeller Center tree lighting

New York – The lighting of the 87th Rockefeller Center tree lighting took place Wednesday, December 4, 2019.  NBC hosts Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Al Roker and Craig Melvin.  The lighting the tree at Rockefeller Center symbolizes the kickoff to the holiday season.

Performers included John Legend, Brett Eldredge, Gwen Stefani, Lea Michele and more.  The holiday tradition began in 1931 with broadcasting of the lighting in 1951. The 77-foot Norway Spruce tree weighing about 12 ton was estimated 70-75 years old was brought in from Florida donated by Carol Schultz.
