New York City – Over 3 million people lined the streets along the parade route in Manhattan to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade 2019 in person. The route was set up so that all could safely bring their families and friends with designated sections to stand and sit along a 2.5 mile route.
Plans were made far in advance with safety for spectators to enjoy the event by NYPD. Street closures, installed concrete barriers to stop any public traffic on the route were in place Wednesday noon until after the parade was complete later Thursday. During the parade there was a presence of police officers, canines as well as police officers in sophisticated vehicles, bikes and other monitoring equipment. Each parade balloon had an officer designated plus many other less visible methods.
The parade route went from 77thst and Central Park West in Manhattan, to Columbus Circle to 6th Ave to 34th Street – on to Macy’s Herald Square for about 2.5 miles
