New York City – Washington Square in Manhattan was the site that the rally began for the “A Day Without a Woman.” The Square packed with women and men supporting the rally was held in conjunction of International Women’s Day. Speeches were about the disparity of women receiving lower paid than the men, inequality of fringe benefits as well as other division within the workforce.
A number of speakers and performers were on the platform before the march began. Speakers included Rabyaah Althaibani, May Madarang, Gabriela, Betty Lyons of the American Indian Law Alliance and more. The rally route began at Washington Square with a route that went to 7thAvenue, Varick Street with stops in front of the Immigration Court and ended in Zuccotti Park.
