New York – Thousands lined the parade route in China Town. The winding route was filled with jubilant families celebrating The Year of the Rooster. The parade was filled with colorful floats, firecrackers and vintage cars. The lion dancing was a definite highlight on the winding route with a well-coordinated team dancing with a head that could weigh more than 30 pounds and the body following. The lion dance was thought to bring good luck and was followed by the large sound of cymbals, gong and a drum. The parade route headed down Mott Street and ended at Sara Roosevelt Park. The tenth in a 12-year cycle in the zodiac Chinese calendar is the Rooster. 2017 is the sign of The Rooster signifying “Fortune and Personality.”
