Las Vegas, Nevada – Spent another great day at the range as the 2023 Shot show kicked off in Las Vegas. Although it was cold and windy the day brought a lot of new products to light. One of the products I found to be very interesting is the introduction of the Byrna Kinetic 12-Gauge less-lethal ammunition demo. For those not familiar with Byrna, they make a full line of less-lethal guns and ammo. The products offer an alternative to lethal firearms for those looking to for various degrees of less-lethal home and personal protection.
Their newest product is a 12-gauge shotgun shell which works with both any traditional shotgun as long as the choke is removed as well as some of the latest more advanced shotguns purposed for self-defense. Speaking with a former, experienced law enforcement officer it was clear the purpose is to simply deter or “wake up” as he put it the intruder or threat rather that taking lethal measures. From his experience this is a much easier decision to make when you feel threatened removing many of the long-term consequences associated with making a lethal self-defense decision.
The shells themselves are quite efficient given the missile shaped projectile and the self-launching mechanics removing most of the effects of shooting a traditional shotgun shell. Certainly, worthy of some consideration as we explore personal and home safety in today’s world. If interested, take a look for additional information at byrna.com. As of print the new product discussed as being just introduced, is not available on their web page.
