Consecration of Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church/World Trade Center

New York:  Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was consecrated on July Fourth 2022 and was officially reopened as a National Shrine.  On September 11, 2001 the church was the only house of worship destroyed when the World Trade Center South Tower fell.

Saint Nicholas church was built by Greek immigrants in 1916.  The Consecration was held Fourth of July to bring the awareness of being an American and the strength of faith.  The Consecration was held within the Shrine and the surrounding Liberty Park.  Architect Santiago Calatrava was chosen to design the new church.  Calatrava designed the Church to glow in the evening hours as a remembrance of hope at the World Trade Center.  The Byzantine churches of Hagia Sophia and the Church of the Holy Savior in Istanbul were models for the Saint Nicholas Church in Liberty Park.  Location; 130 Liberty Street, NYC.
