Number 218 started the full Marathon out front from the beginning to finish first place; Mark Messmer, Castle Rock, Colorado finished with a time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, 1 second. Heidi Bock, Lincoln Nebraska took first place for the Women’s division with time 2 hours, 58 minutes, 28 seconds.
Weather was perfect with 40 to low 50 degrees, sunny, light wind. Runners represented over 40 states. Normally the Marathon is scheduled in the Spring but with the COVID-19 the run was cancelled in 2020 and pushed back to Fall 2021.

Marathon Executive Director Mark Knutson remains deeply involved in keeping the Marathon strong for runners to strive to meet their goals. The marathon started with a half-marathon in 2003 for Run for Children. Sanford Fargo Marathon sold to a national company in 2019 called Rugged Races.
